How to Choose a song for a First Dance
The bride and groom's first dance together as husband and wife is always a big
moment in the reception. All eyes will be on you as you take to the dance floor. Here's
how you can make that memory one that you and your family will cherish forever...
Things You’ll Need:

Step 1:
Ask your spouse-to-be what song he or she considers "your song," and evaluate it to
see whether you agree, and whether the song is suitable for your first dance.

Step 2:
Research popular first-dance songs on the Internet, in the library or among your friends.

Step 3:
Consider using the same song your parents danced to at their wedding, or a song that
has cultural, family or ethnic significance for you.

Step 4:
Listen together to romantic, danceable songs with appropriate lyrics. Sexually suggestive
lyrics are probably inappropriate for a wedding reception.

Step 5:
Consider the appropriateness of the lyrics, once you've chosen a song you both like. If
you will be having a band play the song, decide whether you would prefer an
instrumental or sung version. Remember that even if you use an instrumental version of
the song, your guests may know the lyrics and hear them in their minds.

Step 6:
Notify your DJ or band leader of your choice.

Step 7:
Ask the band leader whether you need to provide sheet music, and if so, where you
should purchase it. Ask your DJ whether you need to provide a recording of the song.

Step 8:
Buy a recording of the song you choose, and practice dancing to it together. A simple
box-step or two-step is easy to teach yourself.

Step 9:
Consider taking dancing lessons together.

Step 10:
Have fun!
